Reservation Agents work with the public, booking reservations & assisting with related tasks. You should be a "people person," someone who enjoys serving others in a friendly, courteous, & efficient manner. Excellent communication skills are important, as is a degree of computer literacy. You will spend a considerable amount of time on the phone, so a pleasant, professional telephone demeanor is important.
Primary Responsibilities:
The chief responsibilities of a Reservation Agent are answering questions about & reserving accommodations; addressing concerns regarding scheduling; & advising on procedures & policies related to our business. You will determine space availability on certain dates & reserve accommodations and amenities for visitors. Using the computer, phone, & fax machine, you will be responsible for computing fees and helping people receive the best rates. You will also request & accept payment in various forms, & be required to ensure an accurate inventory.
Reservation Agents receive their training on-the-job. You’ll be expected to remain discreet & guard personal information with confidentiality. Possessing organizational skills & being a good listener are advantageous. Past employment that focused on interacting with people, such as a front office medical receptionist, would also be beneficial.
